At the start of the Ski World Cup, two nations clash. The reaction: a return carriage on the podium.

The Alpine Ski World Championship in Austria has just started, but verbal top heated discussions are already triggering. What happened? In the final, Switzerland secured the silver medal behind the new world champion Italy with Thomas Tumler, Luca Aerni, Wendy Holdener and Delphine Darbellay. Austria, on the other hand, had to delete the sails in the quarter -finals. For Tumler, the result was not only a success, but also a direct answer to a remark from the neighboring country.

“When I warm up on ORF radio, I heard that Austria had good chances because Switzerland only competed with the B team for men,” said the 35-year-old after the race. Instead of being unsettled, Tumler and his teammates apparently used the statement as an additional motivation.

“Luca and me really motivated that,” continued Tumler. Holdener also did not simply accept the statement. “You may not always have a big mouth,” replied the Olympic champion clearly. “I am grateful that I had such a cool team.”

The former departure world champion Beat Feuz supported the perspective of his compatriots. “This is a bit of a cheek,” commented the 37-year-old as an expert on Swiss television. “After all, Thomas is the World Cup winner this season – and the Austrians don’t have that many World Cup victories this season.”

But not only Austria felt the strength of the Swiss team. The German team also had to defeat Switzerland after a opening win against Slovenia in the quarter -finals.
