Switch from Schlotterbeck to BVB perfect

Dortmund (dpa) – The change from national soccer player Nico Schlotterbeck from SC Freiburg to Borussia Dortmund is perfect.

As the Bundesliga club announced, the 22-year-old central defender signed a contract until June 30, 2027 after completing the obligatory medical check-up. According to media reports, BVB will have to pay a fee of 20 million euros plus bonuses. “Nico Schlotterbeck is a young German national player who has made great progress. His profile fits BVB perfectly,” commented Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc, who left at the end of the season.

After Niklas Süle (FC Bayern Munich), Schlotterbeck is the second signing for the coming season. Both national players should help to stabilize the shaky defense of Borussia, which has already conceded 50 goals in 32 Bundesliga games. “In consultation with all parties involved, I have decided to announce my move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 today. I want to create clarity for SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and myself personally,” said Schlotterbeck.

The 1.91 meter tall defender has played 53 competitive games for Freiburg so far. As a loan player, he made 18 appearances for 1. FC Union Berlin in the 2020/21 season. He made his national team debut last March.

“Nico’s path reminds me of my own, because I came to BVB from Freiburg as a young national player at his age. I hope that Dortmund will become a new home for him, just like it was for me then. Nico has huge potential,” said Zorc -Successor Sebastian Kehl. “He didn’t choose the economically best offer from among the many interested clubs, but deliberately chose BVB in order to develop further in sport here.”
