The open-air races at the swimming World Cup in Singapore start late.
Due to poor water quality, the World Aquatics Association has moved the women race over the Olympic distance of ten kilometers in consultation with the organizer from Tuesday (2:00 a.m. CEST) to Wednesday.
The association announced this late Monday evening (local time). Accordingly, the limit values were exceeded for measurements on Sunday.
The race with the German starter Lea Boy and Jeannette Spiwoks is to be held on Wednesday (4.15 a.m. CEST) after the men’s competition over the same distance with Tokyo Olympic champion Florian Wellbrock and the Paris Olympic second Oliver Klemet (1.30 a.m.).
The races on the Palawan Beach on the island of Sentosa were criticized in advance primarily because of the high water temperatures, which were close to the maximum value of 31 degrees. National coach Bernd Berkhahn had also pointed out the pollution after the first training sessions. “The water is not blue and turquoise, we swim very close to the freighters,” said the German chief coach: “It is a beautiful park, but the water is not so inviting.” There were also problems with jellyfish.
