A day with Carlos. At the youth criteria in Riccione in the short course, D’Ambrosio signed the new Italian record in the 200 meters freestyle in 1’40″69. The talented swimmer originally from Valdagno (Vicenza), but raised as a sportsman in Verona with the Bentegodi Foundation, erased the 1’41″60 set by Thomas Ceccon in the World Cup in Toronto in October. However, the record of the event, Alessandro Miressi’s 1’44″50 from 2017, was shattered. There was also a standing ovation from the Riccione public for the new record holder. “There couldn’t have been a better start for the new season. Here I will compete in many races: 50, 100 freestyle and I think also the 100 butterfly. It helps me a lot to compete” says the financier trained at the federal center in Verona by Luca De Monte. “Today I took back the Italian record, improving my personal record by a second is a lot”, is Carlos’ final comment in a video that appeared on the Federnuoto Instagram profile.

Carlos D’Ambrosio is the son of Giuseppe, Neapolitan, and Maria, Cuban. His parents met in Vicenza where he was born because his father worked in Veneto. An only child, he remained in Naples until he was 13. Napoli fan. He trained in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio for CN Posillipo. After that, he and his family moved to Verona and started swimming at the Federal Center. D’Ambrosio speaks Spanish, which his mother taught him as a child. He has been to Cuba twice, when he was just 3 years old and in 2019 to meet his family. Now, the swimming pool world is slowly starting to get to know him.
