“Anita is healthy and has been extensively examined by a medical team,” the US team said in a statement. “She feels good and is grateful for all the support. While the incident was shocking for everyone involved, we are especially happy that Anita is now healthy.” The team participates in the final without Alvarez.
Andrea Fuentes, the head coach of the American swimming team at the World Cup, avoided major disaster on Wednesday evening by diving into the water when she saw that Alvarez was in danger of drowning. Alvarez had lost consciousness after her exercise and had sunk to the bottom of the pool in Budapest.
