Sweden was close to the all-time floorball fiasco. Germany persevered with three sets in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Sweden’s victory came after great difficulties with 5-2 numbers.
Malmö experienced a special night of floorball. Sweden went in the opening set By Jesper Sankell hitting the lead, but Germany countered immediately.
In the second set, Sankell was able to score directly from the pass and again put Sweden ahead by one. However, Germany smelled surprise in the air. Sweden was sloppy and Germany had several good scoring chances.
At the beginning of the third period came the prize. Playing in Sweden’s third level Jonathan Heins silenced the Malmö arena.
There were seven minutes left on the clock when the top striker on the second knee Gabriel Kohonen loaded his wrists into the lock and fired into the back top corner. Relief once again took over the arena.
Germany’s valiant fight ended three minutes later. The shot was blocked, and Sweden counterattacked.
Reigning world champion Sweden will face the winner of the Czech-Slovakia match in Saturday’s semi-final.
Finland will meet Norway in Friday’s quarterfinals at 20:10 Finnish time.
