The Sven Kramer Academy is coming to the Ireen Wüst IJsbaan in Tilburg. “To give everyone the opportunity to learn how to skate well.”
It will not be the case that Sven Kramer, with 46 gold medals in his pocket, will give the training sessions in Tilburg. For this he employs a team of trainers. ”But he is present at the start”, says Max de Voogd of the Academy. The Sven Kramer Academy will be kicked off on 1 October in Tilburg.

Tilburg already had a skating school. According to De Voogd, the Sven Kramer Academy adds a little more allure. “Doors open for us that won’t open for anyone else.”
According to John van Heeswijk, team leader of the Ireen Wüst IJsbaan, the collaboration with Sven Kramer is logical. “That way the skating lessons will be better.” The new skating school does not necessarily focus on top sport, but, in its own words, specifically on recreational sports for young and old. Incidentally, Ireen Wüst herself, on the ice rink named after her, is not involved with the Academy.
Until recently, the Sven Kramer Academy was located alone in Heerenveen.
