Sven Botman prefers Newcastle to Orange and Brian Brobbey is also a question mark

Sven Botman has withdrawn from the international matches of the Dutch Juniors. The former Ajax player wants to focus this international period on his club Newcastle United, which he switched to this summer for just under forty million.

Botman made his debut for the Dutch Juniors on September 8, 2020 in the game against Norway (2-0 win). The central defender has so far played twelve international matches for the promises of Orange. In this he scored twice.

National coach Erwin van der Looi has decided not to call up a replacement. Despite this, he is not happy with Botman’s choice. “He made this choice himself. I do not fully understand it and find it disappointing,” Van der Looi told ESPN.

Botman played in the youth of Ajax in the past. It never came to a breakthrough in the first. He ended up in England this summer via sc Heerenveen and the French Lille. The footballer from Badhoevedorp has played six times for Newcastle United so far.

Brian Brobbey is also a question mark for the upcoming international matches. The Ajax attacker did not come out of the North Holland derby with AZ unscathed. He still suffers from a big kick from AZ player Tijjani Reijnders. Brobbey trained on Tuesday in the Zeister woods separately from the group.

Practice matches

The Dutch Juniors will start the practice campaign for the European Championship of 2023 this week. The team of trainer Erwin van der Looi will play against the Red Devils in Leuven on Friday. The last friendly against Romania will be played in Cluj on Tuesday 27 September.
