Werder Bremen wants to bring in several new strikers this summer, and there is talk of three new additions for the attack. The first promising talent has already been signed in Kenny Quetant, and now, according to a media report, a veteran is surprisingly to be added.
It appears that Werder Bremen has their sights set on a World Cup participant. As the Swiss newspaper “Blick” reports, the Green-Whites are currently negotiating “intensively” with attacker Cedric Itten about an immediate change.
The 29-year-old, who is part of the Swiss World Cup squad, hunted for goals for Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2nd Bundesliga last season. Itten was the Rhinelander’s life insurance for a long time, collecting 15 goals and three assists in 30 appearances. However, he missed the crucial final match due to a yellow card suspension – and his teammates went down 3-0 in Fürth. The result: F95 was relegated.
The Düsseldorf disaster has an advantage for Werder: Ittten, like many of his teammates, does not have a working document valid for the 3rd league and is therefore available for free. The Bremen team only had to pay a small fee for the Frenchman Kenny Quetant.
According to “Blick”, Itten’s signing with SVW could even take place before the Swiss national team leaves for North America on Tuesday.
Itten knows Werder coach Thioune from Düsseldorf
Werder coach Daniel Thioune, who coached the striker in the first nine competitive games of last season in Düsseldorf, could play a decisive role. During this time, Itten scored four goals.
His first attempt in the 1st Bundesliga in 2021/2022 was unsuccessful. He scored twice in twelve games, but went back to his parent club Rangers FC after the generally disappointing first half of the season.
It is unclear whether Itten would be intended as a regular or a high-class joker in Bremen. However, the transfer planning on the offensive would probably not be completed even in the event of a collaboration.
