SV Sandhausen gets their first win since January – Nuremberg is defeated by Kiel after a slapstick goal

Rostock’s negative run continues

The renewed change of coach at SV Sandhausen has had an effect. The team at the bottom of the table, managed by interim coaches Gerhard Kleppinger and Oscar Corrochano, won 2-1 (1-0) at 1. FC Magdeburg in the 2nd Bundesliga on Saturday after nine games without a win (the last three in January). Dario Dumic gave the guests the lead in front of 23,156 spectators in the MDCC Arena (25th minute) and then increased it to 2-0 (66th). Cristiano Piccini (89th) only managed to get the goal back for FCM.

Sandhausen, who parted ways last Monday with coach Thomas Oral and then with sporting director Mikayil Kabaca, got off to a weak start in terms of play. But the efficiency was right: Dumic used a corner kick to take the lead. This came practically out of nowhere, because Magdeburg had taken control of the game. However, Baris Atik (13th) failed before from a promising position. FCM could have equalized before the half-time whistle: Atik rounded three opponents and staged Herbert Bockhorn – whose cross Leon Bell Bell (45.+1) shot just wide of the goal.

After the change, FCM coach Christian Titz increased his offensive efforts, brought in Tatsuya Ito and, for the first time after his father’s death, Kai Brünker, but too many chances went unused. The guests concentrated entirely on the defensive. The calculation worked: After a free kick in midfield, Alexander Esswein crossed to the second post, where Dumic (66th) pushed the ball in to make it 2-0. Piccini’s goal (89′) came too late for Magdeburg.

1. FC Nuremberg is defeated by Holstein Kiel after a slapstick goal

1. FC Nürnberg is still stuck in the relegation battle with Dieter Hecking as coach. The table-13. lost 2-1 (0-2) at Holstein Kiel on Saturday and has only won two of seven second division games under his sporting director and interim coach Hecking, the third coach this season.

The first goal conceded in front of 12,938 spectators was particularly bitter from Nuremberg’s point of view: FCN goalkeeper Peter Vindahl shot Kiel’s Lewis Holtby in the 19th minute. From there the ball rebounded to Holstein striker Steven Skrzybski. Florian Flick then deflected his harmless shot over his own goal line. When it was 2-0 in the 39th minute, Fabian Reese put the ball in front of himself and shot from the turn, which is well worth seeing.

Somewhat surprisingly, the “club” came back through a goal by substitute Felix Lohkemper (65th). Shortly before, Kiel had missed two good opportunities to score a third goal. Nevertheless, the hosts controlled what happened in the second half, also because Nuremberg’s Jens Castrop saw the red card in the 74th minute. FCN’s offensive game was too harmless on Saturday.

Hansa Rostock still in crisis – SC Paderborn keeps a small chance of advancement

Hansa Rostock suffered the next setback in the relegation battle and also lost at SC Paderborn. Coach Alois Schwartz’s team lost 0:3 (0:0) to the SCP on Saturday. Five days after the Rostock team parted ways with sports director Martin Pieckenhagen, they suffered their fourth defeat in a row. FC Hansa has not won since February 10th. Rostock are penultimate in the table, Paderborn is fifth.

Coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team is probably too big to get involved in the promotion race. Maximilian Rohr (48th minute), Florent Muslija (78th) and Felix Platte (87th) scored the goals for the hosts. Paderborn also benefited from the fact that Rostock’s Lukas Scherff saw the red card after an emergency brake in the first round (27th).
