Suspected murder at bed and breakfast Valkenswaard wants life

The 46-year-old Martien M. from Eindhoven believes that he should receive a life sentence for the murder of his girlfriend in a bed and breakfast in Valkenswaard. His lawyer said this Friday morning after a short interim session in the criminal case at the court in Den Bosch. M. regrets his act, the lawyer said.

The psychologist and psychiatrist who examined M. find him completely insane and have advised tbs with compulsory treatment. “If he doesn’t get a life sentence, he will,” said his counselor Lily van Poucke.

‘He thought he had to save her from something really bad’
M. was psychotic in the past, but that was controlled by medication. When he got into a relationship with the 33-year-old from Eindhoven, he stopped taking the medication. That was because his girlfriend didn’t like the antipsychotics. As a result, his delusions returned. He thought on February 1 of this year that he had to save her from ‘something very bad’, according to his lawyer. That led to him hitting her with a bottle and stabbing her to death with a knife. The man has emphasized that he made the choice himself to stop taking medication.

M. was not present at the short interim session on Friday. The research is almost finished. The case will be heard on October 19.
