In August 2024, Idriss was hanging out with friends near Lunchroom Grannies on Hoofddorpplein. After he went to pee, the suspect came up to him out of nowhere and stabbed him to death.

“With the death of Idriss, a part of me also died. The loss is indescribably great. The loss is present every second of the day. My son still had a whole life ahead of him, a future that was taken from him, a future that we will never see, he will not become a husband, not a father,” said Idriss’s defeated mother in court today.

Child pornography

The Public Prosecution Service suspects K. not only of the murder of Idriss, but also of possessing a gas gun. In addition, 431 photos and videos containing child pornographic material were found in his home.

The suspect himself becomes emotional when it comes to the child pornography and calls it character assassination by the public prosecutor. When the court asks what he means by that, K. gets bogged down in a halting argument about why he does not recognize himself in the facts, as happens often during the rest of the day.

Doorbell camera

After the stabbing, the police found the car tarpaulin in which the perpetrator had wrapped himself, containing a bloody meat cleaver. K. admitted that the sail was his, but he allegedly lost it a week before the incident.

After the stabbing, the suspect ran towards Hoek van Hollandstraat, where K. lived with his father at the time. The images from K.’s doorbell camera from that specific night appear to have been deleted. A photo of his swollen foot was later found on his phone. According to a witness, the suspect lost his balance during the stabbing.

Witnesses pointed out that there had been confrontations before between K. and the victim’s group of friends. K. also allegedly showed a knife. Previously, K. had said that the group was harassing him because of his homosexual orientation, but during this hearing he denied that he was homosexual and stated that it was about an Israeli flag that he had hung up.

Unsafe feeling

The public gallery was full of friends of Idriss today and his family exercised their right to speak. They find it particularly difficult that the suspect denies any form of involvement to this day.

K. has a long history of previous convictions for, among other things, assault, threats and vandalism. Moreover, he was already under supervision by the probation service. K. told them that he felt unsafe on Hoofddorpplein and that he wanted to shoot the boys or place a gas cylinder in front of their house. In the months before Idriss’ death, K. often called the police because he felt unsafe.

There were concerns about K’s development and behavior from an early age. He was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in his youth. He would also often be suspicious and feel tormented and deprived. He would also have difficulty distinguishing between fantasy and reality.

Because he did not want to cooperate properly with an investigation at the Pieter Baan Center, it cannot be determined at this time whether this had an influence on his actions. The Public Prosecution Service does note that he is less accountable. Lawyer Gerald Roethof asked for an acquittal.

The verdict will be announced on January 13.
