Suspect of double murder Weiteveen in court on April 17

The first public hearing in the case of the double murder in Weiteveen is scheduled for April 17 in the court in Assen. A spokesperson for the Northern Netherlands court confirmed this to the ANP.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) suspects 50-year-old Richard K. from Klazienaveen of the death of a 44-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man on January 16. He is said to have used multiple weapons and excessive force.

The suspect had a long-running conflict with the victims. That would have been about the sale of a house. The Public Prosecution Service previously announced that “over the past year, both parties have made several reports and several reports of what they consider to be nuisance or criminal behavior by the other.”

Prior to the first public hearing, a chamber of the court in Groningen will decide on January 31 whether the suspect’s pre-trial detention should be extended. He is also being examined at the Pieter Baan Center.

After the incident on Bargerweg, two videos appeared on social media. In one video, a man says that “something really bad has happened” and that he will “go to jail for the rest of his life.” In another, a woman says her husband has “gone completely crazy.”
