Suspect arrested in connection with explosions in Amsterdam catering industry

The police arrested a person on Friday who is suspected of involvement in the wave explosions that ravaged homes and catering businesses in Amsterdam this summer. This is reported by the ANP news agency. It is not known how many cases the person would have been involved in, but it would be more than ten cases.

The suspect is currently in restriction and may only have contact with his lawyer. He is said to have been arrested after investigation by the two special investigation teams that were set up earlier this month to investigate the series of attacks in Amsterdam. At least twelve explosions have taken place in the capital since July, including at catering establishments, which were subsequently closed by order of the municipality.

Also elsewhere in the Netherlands, many attacks with explosives took place this summer, often at night, at homes and businesses. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service had to take action almost twenty times this year because of attacks, or attempts to do so, with explosives. In 2019 that was six times. It is not known whether the arrested person was also involved in the attacks outside Amsterdam.
