Surprising names in Orange selection: Bruno Martins Indi and Jerdy Schouten

National coach Louis van Gaal has announced the final selection of the Dutch national team for the Nations League matches with Belgium, Wales and Poland. AZ defender Bruno Martins Indi returns after a long time and former Telstar midfielder Jerdy Schouten makes his debut.

Martins Indi is part of the selection of the Dutch national team for the first time in five years. During the 2014 World Cup final round, the 34-time international played almost all matches. His current teammates Jordy Clasie and Owen Wijndal, who were part of the pre-selection, are not among them.

From Telstar to Orange

The name of Jerdy Schouten is striking. The former Telstar player is therefore there for the first time. The footballer, who was born in Spijkenisse, ended up at Telstar via ADO Den Haag in the ’17/18 season. He immediately made an impression and left after 37 base places (4 goals) the following summer for the then premier divisionist Excelsior. He also became a basic player in Rotterdam, after which the Italian Bologna lured him to the Serie A. Schouten is now working on its third season.

Former AZ striker Vincent Janssen (17 internationals/7 goals) who, to everyone’s surprise, ended up in the preselection, has also been called up by Louis van Gaal. Janssen has been playing football in Mexico since 2019 and last played for the Orange in 2017.
