Görges no longer follows current events on the WTA tour closely. “I only watch tennis when my boyfriend is playing,” admitted the 34-year-old. The right-hander is in a relationship with Dutch professional Wesley Koolhof.
Görges himself doesn’t long for life in the professional scene. “If I’m honest, I don’t miss tennis,” she revealed: “I had a very long and intense career. At some point the chapter was closed for me. I’m not someone who looks back forever. I carry my memories in my heart, They’re in good hands there.”
Julia Görges “satisfied” with her tennis career
For years, Görges was one of the biggest tennis stars in Germany. In total, the ex-player reached three Grand Slam semi-finals during her career – including Wimbledon in 2018. In the same year, Görges also ranked in the top ten of the world rankings.
“I look back on my career very satisfied. Especially when I look at where I started, where I come from and that I really wasn’t a good youth player and started relatively late,” said Görges, satisfied with her tennis career .
The 34-year-old explained: “Back then I didn’t have that many opportunities to train outside of school. When I was young, no one really put my faith in me at the beginning. But I always wanted to become a professional tennis player and I’ve made it this far “To be able to win so many trophies and experience so many great moments is wonderful.”
