Enthroned three weeks ago Tottenham Hotspur still at the top of the English table Premier League. It wasn’t even noticeable that he wasn’t there anymore. Instead of Kane, Heung-min Son and James Maddison came up trumps and they proved to be a congenial duo. Even without Kane, coach Ange Postecoglou had formed a team that could compete at the top. Or so it seemed.

Chelsea bankruptcy as a sticking point

But then came the game against FC Chelsea. In the 4-1 home defeat, several regular players were injured, and Cristian Romero with red and Destiny Udogie with yellow-red also had to leave the field.

So decimated they suffered a 2-1 defeat a week later Wolverhampton Wanderers. Both goals conceded came in stoppage time. Bankruptcy number three followed at home against Aston Villa (1:2).

Man City are clearly the favorites

Improvement is not in sight. On Sunday (December 3rd, 2023 / game summary from 7:15 p.m. in the Sportschau) they have to “Spurs” at Manchester City ran. After three defeats in a row, they slipped to fifth place in the table with 26 points.

In Manchester, too, Postecoglou still has to do without eleven injured players, including top players Maddison and Richarlison. In addition, Romero is still suspended.

The latest statistics speak for Tottenham

City, on the other hand, has been unbeaten in five games. Since there were only two draws against Chelsea FC (4:4) and Liverpool FC (1:1), coach Pep Guardiola’s team is only in second place behind Arsenal FC with 29 points.

What gives Spurs hope is the statistics. Tottenham won three of the last four duels with Man City.
