Supporter riots after ADO Den Haag defeat | Inland

After an insane game, the game had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out. After Excelsior came out as the winner there, things went wrong immediately. Supporters of the home team ran onto the field, towards the supporters of Excelsior. Images show how fireworks, a corner flag and other attributes are thrown into the away section. After the ME takes the field, most supporters seem to return to their own trade. The Mobile Unit came to the stadium to ‘bring the players and the arbitration to safety’, the police reported via Twitter.

The Excelsior players also had to leave the field in a hurry. Footage from ESPN showed the players briefly celebrating with their own supporters, but were then quickly directed towards the catacombs by security guards. Then the promotion party was further celebrated in the dressing room. Players and staff appear unharmed. It is not known if any supporters were injured.

It was also restless around the stadium after the game. The police report that disturbances have broken out and that the riot police are carrying out charges and police dogs have been deployed. Several arrests have been made and police say violence has been used against officers.

3-0 lead

Due to the defeat, ADO missed promotion to the Eredivisie. The team had taken a 3-0 lead in the game, but gave up that lead to 3-3. The score was 4-4 in overtime, meaning penalty kicks were needed to decide the match.
