It was in April for Johannes Thingnes Bø. Then the Norwegian ends his career. But how often will it be seen by then?
Biathlon superstar Johannes Thingnes Bø must take a forced break shortly before the end of the season. The 31-year-old explained before his departure from Pokljuka: “I will suspend in the hope that I will be 100 percent fit for my very last races on the Holmenkollen in the coming week.”
The Norwegians’ opportunities are thus disappearing to win the overall World Cup. His compatriot Sturla Holm Lægreid could further expand his lead of 39 points on Saturday in the mass start.
Bø had already reported health problems after the individual race on Thursday, which he ended in tenth place. On ZDF he explained: “I have been sick for the past two days. It was very hard.” Actually, he should have paused because of his condition, but with a view to the overall World Cup, he said: “I would usually stay away, I really don’t feel good.” Nevertheless, he had to take every chance to take off points.
On Friday, Bø started my journey home with a day late. In the coming week there will be the races in the sprint on the Holmenkollen, in the persecution and in the mass start. A total of 270 points are awarded. “I have to see that I will get well, otherwise I have no chance at all,” said Bø.
