Stand you fancy a non-trivial love story, don’t miss out at 21.30 on Channel 5 Super heroes, with Alessandro Borghi and Jasmine Trinca. The movie of Paul Genoeseauthor of the award-winning Perfect strangers (film with the world record of remake), tells the meaning of meeting by chance. And then meet again, always by chance, on a rainy day. To fall in love and decide to attempt a heroic enterprise: to remain together.
Super heroes: the plot, from a chance meeting to love
With Superheroes we are more in the context of romantic comedy, set between Milan and Ponza, Copenhagen and Marrakesh. The story is based on the novel of the same name by the director himself. The protagonists are Anna (Jasmin Trinca) and Mark (Alessandro Borgo), who, as in Lucio Dalla’s song, are meant to hold hands.
He is a slightly nerdy physics professorconvinced that there is an explanation for everything. She is an aspiring cartoonist, bright and restless who dresses hippie and is only superficial in appearance. They meet, they like each other. Then they meet again by chance and end up in bed together. But they are both busy.

Superheroes are the ones who never break up
Chance will make them meet again and love will make them unite permanently. And here the challenge begins. There couple, like all, try to resist the passage of time (the film jumps from the past to the present, over a span of twenty years to describe the change). Try to resist the turmoil, the quarrels, the lies, the unsaid things or the shouted ones.
A feat that Anna plans to tell in a comic entitled “Superheroes”, arguing that real superheroes are couples who have the superpowers to be together for a long time. The film thus displays the great themes of life as a couple: How do you stand the test of time? Can love win the battle?
Marco, of scientific training, explains his love with physics: The more the distance between two bodies increases, the greater will be the attraction that will lead them to reunite. So, guys, if you love each other so much, don’t go too far,” he tells his pupils. But then he will admit in a final monologue that being together is an ultra-scientific matter.

In the film a whirlwind of emotions
The plot unfolds between a trip to Marrakesh to bring an ancient vase to safety, and wedding vows. The inevitable shadows appear: the ghost of a son and a sudden accident, in a puzzle game in which we cry, laugh, cry again, even for the unsettling ending. To amplify the mood of the viewer, a beautiful and clever soundtrack, with songs from I’m Yours by Jason Mraz a You are very beautiful by Loredana Berte.
Excellent actors: Jasmine Trinca and Alessandro Borghi, two systems (to put it in physics) that combine perfectly, giving sweetness and emotion. The cast also includes other great names in Italian cinema: in addition to Greta Scarano, Elena Sofia Ricci (Anna’s mother) and Vinicio Marchioni (Marco’s best friend).
