The Tunisian with more than 20 points is the best of the match played in Umbria. After two defeats in a row, Lorenzetti’s team regains the top alone
SIR SUSA SCAI PERUGIA – VERO VOLLEY MONZA 3-1 (25-14, 25-27, 25-22, 25-20)
Thanks to the four-set victory against Monza, Sir returns alone to the top of the men’s Super League rankings and thus forgets the last two consecutive defeats suffered at home against Verona (3-2) and at Trento (3-1). However, the record is virtual, having played two more games. Angelo Lorenzetti’s team anticipated this challenge with Monza (with the remake of the double final of 2023/24, which gave the Umbrians the Italian Cup and the Scudetto) scheduled for the twelfth matchday in order to be able to play the Club World Cup in Belem (Brazil) from next 16 December (debut against the Libyans of Swehly Sports Club).

Perugia never gave the feeling of being able to crush their opponents and initially lined up with Giannelli as director and Ben Tara as opposite, Loser and Solè in the centre, the former Plotnytskyi and Semeniuk spikers, Gaggini (preferred to Colaci) as libero. Monza showed up with the former Zimmermann as director, Padar as opposite, the other former Beretta and Mosca as central defenders, Atanasov and the recovered Rohrs spikers, with Scanferla as libero. In the first set, Sir had the strength to extend from the start thanks to a Ben Tara (8 points in the half with 75% in attack) who was at times devastating, assisted by a superlative Giannelli (4 points with an ace and two blocks), making any attempt at a comeback by Monza futile. The final point (25-14) was then awarded by Solè’s attack in the centre. The script changed in the second half, with Perugia holding the reins of the game for a long time, but without being able to detach Massimo Eccheli’s sextet (who brought in Velichkov and Larizza from the start for Atanasov and Mosca), who after the 5-5 always remained tied to the score thanks above all to the second lines, with some delicacies (ace by Frascio for 19-18 and double attack by Marttila for the 23-22 and 24-23), until the final point (25-27) achieved with a mocking ace from Rohrs. In the third set Monza (with Marttila’s confirmation from the start) once again put their head ahead at the start (6-7) and then held on until 22-21, inserting themselves into the breaks (especially mental) shown by Perugia. But in the long run, thanks to Solè’s blocks (three in the half) and Ben Tara’s attacks (8 points for him, including the final attack of 25-22), he gave in, without ever falling apart. The fourth set continued in the name of balance and with Ben Tara (MVP) able to make the difference (Marttila did well on the other side to keep the Lombards afloat), until he put the attack to the ground (25-20) which closed the match. On Sunday Perugia will return to play (6pm) at home against Cisterna, while the Lombards will be busy (8pm) at home against Piacenza.
Perugia: Ben Tara 22 points, Plotnytskyi 16 points; team blocks 14 (3 Loser, Ben Tara, Solè, Plotnytskyi); ace team 5 (2 Plotnytskyi).
Monza: Rohrs 16 points, Beretta 10 points; team blocks 11 (5 Beretta, 2 Zimmermann and Mosca); ace team 3 (1 Frascio, Rohrs and Marttila).
