Super League: Madrid accepts Uefa appeal for penalties against Juve, Real, Barça

New chapter in the legal battle between Juve, Real Madrid, Barcelona, the Superlega project and Uefa. Waiting for the Court of Justice of the European Union to rule on the legality or otherwise of the initiative, the Court of Madrid, which in April 2021 had imposed on UEFA to withdraw the sanctions against the 3 clubs, today accepted the appeal of Ceferin forcing the parties to stand trial on June 14th.

The turning point

The head judge of section 17 of the court has changed and the new judge Sofía Gil has decided to agree with UEFA with an 18-page order. According to the judge, at the time of the establishment of the Super League “the clubs were aware of the possible consequences, which did not prevent the adoption of funding commitments, which cannot be assumed or presumed frustrated by any sanctions”. Juve, Real and Barcelona have already announced that they will make a further appeal, but this procedure reopens the Uefa investigation process which could lead to new sanctions against the three clubs. In the past, Uefa had decided on penalties of 100 million euros and exclusion from the cups for one or two years. Proceedings suspended with the first act of the Madrid court. But now everything changes again.
