Sunrise Brands acquires Rebecca Minkoff

The US accessories and lifestyle brand Rebecca Minkoff was acquired by Sunrise Brands, the parent company of fashion brands such as Seven7, Joie, Current/Elliott and Equipment and other labels. Sunrise Brands is headquartered in Vernon, California with offices in New York and Hong Kong. According to a report by WWD, the purchase price is between 13 and 19 million US dollars. The two founders of the label, the siblings Rebecca and Uri Minkoff, are to remain with the company, Uri continues as creative director, Rebecca in an advisory and innovation-oriented function, it is said.

The Rebecca Minkoff label specializes in affordable luxury handbags, accessories and clothing. The fashion designer rose to fame in 2001 with her cut-up version of the “I Love New York” t-shirt worn by actress Jenna Elfman on a talk show shortly after 9/11. In 2005 she designed her first handbag, which she soon named “Morning After Bag”, also known as MAB. This iconic bag launched her career as a handbag designer. The first ready-to-wear collection followed in 2009. It now also includes shoes, jewelry and accessories as well as a Home Collection to Portfolio.

In September 2018, Minkoff founded the Female Founder Collective, a network of women-owned businesses to support each other.
