Anyone who has plans for Remembrance Day or Liberation Day early next week would do well to bring a jacket or vest. The weather shows itself from both sides: during the day still fairly mild with occasional sun, but clearly cooler in the evening and on May 5, according to the forecast of weatherman Roland van der Zwaag.

On Monday, May 4, it will remain mild during the day for this time of year. According to Van der Zwaag, it can still be 17 to 18 degrees in the afternoon. “Drenthe is still in the somewhat warm air.” Cloud fields and sun alternate and it is expected to remain largely dry, with at most a local shower.

Later in the day the wind turns to the northwest and the cooling increases. This makes it feel fresher during the afternoon and evening, exactly towards the moments when the country commemorates Remembrance Day. Around 8 p.m. temperatures fluctuate around 10 degrees.

The weather will also remain changeable on Tuesday, May 5, although there will be no precipitation. The day starts fresh and remains so, with a weak to moderate northerly wind. “Liberation Day also seems to be cool this year,” says weatherman Roland van der Zwaag. In the afternoon the temperature is about 13 to 14 degrees.

The sun still makes an appearance every now and then, but according to Van der Zwaag the clouds probably have the upper hand. It remains dry all day, which is favorable for the outdoor activities planned in Drenthe, such as the liberation festival at the Baggelhuizerplas in Assen. Umbrellas and raincoats can therefore remain at home.

While it is still possible to wear shorts or a dress on Monday, this is no longer recommended on Liberation Day. The lower temperatures and the northern wind make it feel clearly fresher, especially when the sun does not show itself for a while.

The advice therefore boils down to: wear layers and take into account a cool, but largely dry liberation party.
