Summer carnival in Schaijk comes from postponement: ‘Nice, but not familiar’

Under a radiant sun and a clear blue sky, a carnival parade passed through the streets of Schaijk on Saturday. A late corona catch-up parade, that is, which had to be canceled in February. The whole of Schaijk turned out to see the Moesland carnival parade after all.

Ideally you would think; a parade with summer temperatures of around 23 degrees and a radiant sun. Very different from the traditional carnival parade in winter.

People definitely like it, the mood is good. But most still prefer the ‘real’ and colder Carnival in February. “This is unfamiliar and different,” says a young man who drinks a beer and watches.

Carnival twice a year, he thinks is a good idea. With summer carnival as a bonus: “Every spring a summer edition of the parade is allowed by me, but only exclusively in Schaijk.”

In this radiant weather, most spectators stand in shorts and with a T-shirt to watch the parade. Despite everything, a man accompanying the cars still misses the ‘real’ carnival feeling. “This is different, and not everyone is dressed up, as usual with carnival.” Better to come back in February next time, if you ask him.

Anyway, the terraces were packed and along the road it was very busy with spectators. Because even though that entire summer carnival might have been a bit uncomfortable, they have not forgotten about building a party in Schaijk.
