Sum 41 honor Rage Against The Machine with “Sleep Now In The Fire” cover

Sum 41 played the song live because it comes from “one of their favorite bands of all time.”

Sum 41 paid their respects to Rage Against The Machine. Following RATM’s recent announcement that they would be withdrawing from live performances and even quitting altogether, Canadians Sum 41 wanted to give a proper thank you to “one of their favorite bands of all time.” And so they shared a live video via X from Hellfest in France in 2023. There they played a cover version of “Sleep Now In The Fire” in June.

Watch the live cover here, with singer Deryck Whibley giving it his all:

Dissolution after album release

Sum 41 have also announced their complete withdrawal from the music industry. The band recently announced that they would be quitting after the release of their eighth studio album HEAVEN :X: HELL and the accompanying world tour. The upcoming record is scheduled to be released in spring 2024, but the group did not give an exact date. Whibley explained that it was a double album of “completely different records”, with the HEAVEN side reflecting their pop-punk beginnings and the HELL side reflecting their recent, more heavy metal-inspired releases.
