Suede have released a short film. The nearly 20-minute video “Autofiction: A Short Film” was directed by Katie Lambert and has been available to stream since August 17th.
According to the press release, Autofiction: A Shortfilm is a “modern, gritty spectacle told from the perspective of two protagonists who are at emotional turning points in their lives.”
Suede bassist Mat Osman says of ‘Autofiction: A Short Film’: “With the ‘Autofiction’ short film, we didn’t want to make just a simple performance video — we wanted to make a short film that overlaps with a Suede gig and in which the Band only plays a minor role. MrMr (production company, note) then came up with the idea of taking a fork in the road of a pair of lovers and playing with it in some odd way — jumping back and forth chronologically, seeing it through a different pair of eyes, and also observing how their hopes, fears, shift and mix memories ‘Autofiction: A Short Film’ takes some of the album’s themes — youth and aging, love and loss, fear and joy — and plays them out in the story of Chris and Hannah.”
Autofiction: A Short Film is Suede’s first short film. The band has released several concert films, including one in 1993 and Night Thoughts (2015).
Accompanying their new short film, Suede released a new single a few days earlier. Hear and see “15 Again” streamed here:

Suede announced their new album in May. AUTOFICTION, as it is titled, will include eleven songs and will be released on September 16th. The first new single was “She Still Leads Me On”, which will also be the opener of the album. Hear the song streamed here.
Producer Ed Buller recorded the record with Suede at Konk Studios in London. In a statement, singer Brett Anderson said: “car fiction is our punk record. No whistles and bells. Just the five of us in a room with all the glitches and fuck-ups revealed; the band themselves exposed in all their primal mess.”
Suede announced their new album on Instagram as follows:
Suede formed in London in 1989. Their debut SUEDE was released in 1993. Thanks to this and the two successors DOG MAN STAR (1994) and COMING UP, they belonged to the so-called Big Four of Britpop at the time, along with Oasis, Blur and Pulp. The band broke up in 2003 and got back together in 2010. Their current album THE BLUE HOUR was released in 2018. In the USA, the band is known as The London Suede because a pop and jazz singer of the same name sued against the use of her name there.
