The Sudanese army has destroyed a plane from the United Emirates at an airport in Darfur, in which Colombian mercenaries were. The AFP and EFE press agencies report this in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. According to the Sudanese state television, the aircraft was attacked during the landing and forty people were killed.

The army accuses the United Arab Emirates of supplying weapons and drones to the paramilitary RSF (Rapid Support Forces) with which it has been at war since April 2023. The Sudanese government has already stated several times that Colombian mercenaries are fighting with the RSF.

Device ‘completely destroyed’

A military source tells AFP that the aircraft is “bombed and completely destroyed”. The secret service of the army would have monitored the flight from the moment the aircraft rose from an unnamed air force base in the Persian Gulf.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro writes on X That his government is figuring out how many Colombians died in the attack. “We will see if we can retrieve their bodies.”

According to the UN, the war in Sudan has already killed tens of thousands of people, displaced about 13 million people and deposited the impoverished country in the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
