Prince Philip died on April 9 last year. He was 99 years old at the time of his death.

Known as a joking man, Philip kept his humor until the end.

Philip’s eldest son, Prince Charles, 73, has revealed in a BBC documentary what he was talking to his father on the phone just hours before his death.

Charles had told Philip that his family was planning a birthday party for him. Philip would have completed the round one hundred in June.

– We’re talking about your birthday. And about whether a reception will be held, Charles says he said to his father on the last call.

Or rather, Charles shouted, for Philip’s hearing had already weakened.

– Well, I should be alive then, shouldn’t I? Philip threw in a joke in response.

Philip didn’t love big chemists any more, so Charles says he guessed his father would also play talk about the centenary.

Charles said in the documentary he was glad the last call was a joke in tone. It left a good memory.

Philip’s biography, published in August, tells us that the man never dreamed of living a hundred years:

– I really do not want to persevere as a queen, the man told the biographer Gyles Brandrethille.

– I couldn’t imagine anything more horrible. My ability to function is already starting to decline. I have no desire to cling to life unnecessarily. Terrible thought, Philip continued to reflect on his age.

Philip was buried at low cost due to interest rate restrictions.

His memorial service was celebrated more this spring, March 29th.
