Successor to Henry Cavill as “Superman” is (finally) certain

Casting Superman, no matter what movie he appears in, is also a bit of a political issue. Perhaps because Christopher Reeves embodied the Man of Steel so convincingly, or because the first “Superman” films had a decisive influence on the superhero genre.

Henry Cavill had been on the move for a long time, only to be called back on a new DC adventure only to be dropped for good a few months ago. There will be a new Superman. A younger and (yet) unknown face: David Corenswet.

As Variety reports, the 29-year-old will star in the next film in the franchise (Superman: Legacy). He is currently starring in the critically acclaimed horror film Pearl alongside rising star Mia Goth. However, Netflix users also know him from the in-house productions “The Politician”, “Hollywood” and “Look Both Ways”.

But not only Clark Kent alias Superman is recast. His beloved Louis Lane is no longer embodied by Amy Adams, as she was recently, but will be brought to life by Rachel Brosnahan in the future. She’s best known, of course, from Amy Sherman-Palladino’s 1950s series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, in which she’s trying to make a comedy career.

There is still a little time to prepare for the new roles: “Superman: Legacy”, which is conceived as the starting point of a new DC universe and is to be directed by director James Gunn, is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 10, 2025.
