An explanation for these positive figures is the multitude of events. The traditional fireworks in Koksijde, the many Christmas markets and the New Year’s dive were among the highlights. This is also agreed by Jurgen Vanlerberghe, deputy for tourism: “The original and high-quality offer is appreciated by a wide audience. The events provide a different dimension. The Coast is increasingly positioning itself as a destination throughout the year: two thirds of the tourist turnover is realized outside the summer season.”
