Substitutes give Jong AZ a good point against Willem II and Jong Ajax fails against TOP Oss

A goal by Jayden Addai in stoppage time leaves AZ with one point in the confrontation with Willem II, 1-1. And that is the umpteenth time that the young Alkmaarders deliver a good performance against one of the high flyers from the first division. Young Ajax did less well. Dave Vos’ team lost 1-2 to TOP Oss at home.

Normally, Maarten Martens has a few players from the main selection for matches on Monday evenings. Not this time, because of AZ’s European away match against Lazio. Nevertheless, the very young players of the Belgian coach held up well against Willem II.

Scoring progression

Although the match for Jong AZ started quite dramatically. After twenty minutes, the Alkmaar talents faced a 0-2 deficit at the training complex in Wijdewormer. Among other things due to a used penalty from Jizz Hornkamp from De Rijp. Things went better after the break and Jong AZ came back into the game in the 55th minute via Jurre van Aken. For a long time it seemed that it would stay there, but suddenly there was Jayden Addai in the 91st minute. The substitute shot his team to the 2-2 final score.

Due to this draw, Jong AZ is eighth in the ranking. On Friday, Martens’ men will go to the east of the country for the meeting with number two Heracles Almelo.

Young Ajax is having a mediocre season. That turned out to be the case again on Monday evening. Despite the presence of players such as Kian Fitz-Jim, Jorrel Hato, Youri Regeer, Francisco Conceicão and Lorenzo Lucca, TOP Oss turned out to be too strong.

Kay Tejan

Just like Jong AZ, Jong Ajax also trailed 2-0, partly due to a goal by Kay Tejan. The former FC Volendam player played in Moldova for FC Sheriff earlier this season. In the winter break he returned to the Ossenaren and therefore with success. Shortly after Tejan’s goal, Jong Ajax did something back via Kristian Hlynsson, but that was it. Although Conceicão and Lucca still had great opportunities.

Due to the loss, Jong Ajax remains number seventeen in the ranking. The men of trainer Dave Vos will go to FC Eindhoven on Friday.
