Subsidy pot for electric cars 2023 already empty for a third | Car

The subsidy pot for private individuals for the purchase of a fully electric car is already empty for a third. The budget for buying a second-hand electric is also shrinking quickly.

Of the 32.4 million euro subsidy for used cars, 23.7 million euro was left at the end of March. Those who buy a second-hand electric car can receive a subsidy of 2,000 euros, provided that the original list price of the car was no more than 45,000 euros. The car must also remain in the buyer’s name for three years.

Of the 67 million euro subsidy for new electric cars for private individuals, 48.6 million is still left. The purchase by a private individual of a new electric car is subsidized with 2950 euros. Only cars that do not cost more than 45 grand are eligible for a subsidy.

End of May

The subsidy pot for new electric cars is shrinking less quickly than last year when the pot was empty at the end of May. Then there was 71 million to be distributed and applicants received 3350 euros. Trade association Bovag wants the subsidy pot for electric cars not to be limited and that everyone can apply for it. Bovag is afraid that electric driving will become for the elite if the car with a plug does not become more affordable.

Car sales in the Netherlands are recovering from the dip caused by the lack of parts and chips. The logistics that were disrupted by corona have also been restored. According to car industry organizations Bovag and RAI Association, more than half more new passenger cars were registered in March compared to the same month last year. A quarter of new cars are electric. Last month, the Tesla Y was the best-selling electric car, although the model is too expensive for private subsidies.

In the first quarter of this year, 98,059 new cars were already sold, which represents an increase of more than a quarter. The car industry expects to be able to sell a total of 340,000 new cars this year, 9 percent more than last year.
