The subsidy scheme ‘Sustainability, maintenance and improvement of buildings in the Groningen earthquake area’ (hereinafter: Sustainability and Improvement Groningen subsidy) has been extended for five years. This subsidy allows homeowners to make investments in their home that they may have postponed while waiting for reinforcement or repair of the earthquake damage to their home. The subsidy continues until May 31, 2031. There is sufficient money available for everyone who qualifies for this subsidy.

Subsidy for home improvements

The purpose of the subsidy is to improve the quality and sustainability of homes in the region. For example, owners can apply for a subsidy to resolve overdue maintenance. The subsidy can also be used for sustainability and increased living comfort. For example, the money can be used to renovate the kitchen or buy solar panels.

Four variants of the subsidy for Sustainability and Improvement in Groningen

The subsidy for Sustainability and Improvement of Groningen consists of four variants: subsidy for Sustainability and Improvement of Groningen €7,000, €10,000, €13,000 and €17,000. Home owners in designated postal code areas that do not fall within the reinforcement operation can apply for a subsidy of up to €10,000. Owners whose home is included in the reinforcement of National Coordinator Groningen (NCG) can apply for the subsidy of € 7,000 or € 17,000. Home owners who have opted for a reassessment can also apply for the €13,000 subsidy.

Five-year extension

Because the reinforcement operation in Groningen has not yet been completed, the subsidy for Sustainability and Improvement of Groningen can also be applied for longer. All variants of the subsidy have therefore been extended for five years. The subsidy(s) can be applied for until May 31, 2031.

Block B subsidy also extended

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is responsible for the scheme ‘Sustainability, maintenance and improvement of buildings in the Groningen earthquake area’. Five municipalities are responsible for the ‘Block B’ subsidy. This subsidy arose from administrative agreements made with the region on November 6, 2020. The purpose of this is to resolve differences that arose due to the new reinforcement standards in 2020. The owners who qualify for this have already been informed about this in the past by their municipalities. The mayor and aldermen of the municipalities of Eemsdelta, Groningen, Het Hogeland, Midden-Groningen and Oldambt have also decided to extend this subsidy until May 31, 2031.

Apply for a grant

The Northern Netherlands Partnership (SNN) continues to implement the arrangements. All subsidies can be found on the SNN website.
