VfB Stuttgart worked their way into the second round of the DFB Cup on Friday evening (29.07.22) with a narrow 1-0 win at Dynamo Dresden.
Darko Churlinov scored the goal of the evening for the Swabians. Vagnoman had passed a pass from Wataru Endo from the right side of the penalty area hard to the back edge of the six-yard box, where Churlinov pushed the ball over the line with his inside instep from four yards out.
VfB sure pass, Dresden outnumbered without great chances
The Bundesliga club started with a good pass, but hardly managed to create dangerous scoring chances. Only when the home side acted a little more courageously after half an hour did the Stuttgart team create chances. Before and after Churlinov’s goal, Tiago Tomás missed twice. Especially when he hit the post (39th), the VfB supporters already had the goal scream on their lips.
When Waldemar Anton was shown the yellow-red card by referee Florian Badstübner in the 67th minute, the Dresdeners drew hope again under new coach Markus Anfang. But despite the majority, the third division team was unable to create any compelling scoring opportunities. In the closing stages it was Stuttgart who almost scored the second with another goal from aluminum by Millot. The VfB is lackluster in the second round.
Beginning: “We Were Close”
“We played an extremely good game. It only got hot and emotional towards the end. We were lucky there.”, said VfB sports director Sven Mislintat on Sky. Regarding the red card he said: “The referee played a great game, but he was completely wrong with yellow-red, I have to say that unfortunately.”said Mislintat. Meanwhile, Dynamo coach Markus Anfang mourned the missed opportunities: “We were close, but you could see the quality of VfB. We believed in it until the end and unfortunately lost again by a goal.”
