In the first home game without Nick Woltemade and for the anniversary celebration “100 Years of Brustring”, VfB Stuttgart celebrated a short and happy success against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The game of the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon ended 1-0 (0-0).
The Spaniard Chema Andrés, desired from Stuttgart’s point of view, scored after a quickly executed corner, Jamie Leweling had precisely finished the penalty point and Andres’ head (79th minute). The Gladbacher “Fohlen” remain without a goal in the second game of the season, goalkeeper Tim Kleindienst is still painfully missing, and Haris Tabakovic was also missing.
At noon was the change from goal scorer and international Woltemade from Stuttgart to the financially strong English club Newcastle United have been officially announced. On August 30, 1925, VfB had played the red breast ring on the jersey for the first time.
A lot of work for the keeper and an early injured Undav near Stuttgart
In the first round, both goalkeepers could not complain about a lack of work. VfB goalkeeper Alexander Nübel was aware of a plug-in pass and in front of Franck Honorat on the ball (5th), his counterpart Moritz Nicolas parried with his right hand a low shot from Tiago Tomas from 13 meters (18th). The passing on the Portuguese came from Chris Führich, who replaced Deniz Undav. Gladbach’s Shuto Machino fell on his knee unhappily to the international.
Jamie Leweling checked the Gladbach keeper a little later (19th) before the game tipped over the part of the first half of the game from Stuttgart’s point of view. With a good switching game, Joe Scally gave his defense colleague Lukas Ullrich a good chance of shooting, but the attempt broke past the right Kreuzeck (22nd). It became particularly difficult for Nübel when the striking Kevin Stöger hit a free kick on the agile Philipp Sander, whose header parried Nübel with his fingertips on the right hand from five meters.
Gladbach’s Stöger almost with the 0: 1
The eleven of Gerardo Seoane remained the more active team immediately after the restart. After a surprising Hacken play by Rocco Reitz, Stöger left Vagnoman and pulled down with left. Nübel was beaten, but had the help of the crossbar, which prevented the deficit in favor of the hosts (51.). Just two minutes later, Machino missed a header chance.
Peu à peu, VfB worked back into the increasingly balanced game. Great chances were in short supply. But then the VfB hit: Mönchengladbach’s defense took too long to sort himself up at the short corner. Chema came to the ball much too undisturbed after Leweling’s cross, Nicolas in the box of the guests was without a chance of defense. “It was exactly what we said during the half -time break that it is probably just a game that is about a standard situation and speed of action at the right moment, and in the end it was so and we are very happy about the victory”said Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß afterwards.
Borussia throws everything forward
With a four-way change, Seoane and his Borussia were against the impending defeat. The eleven of the Lower Rhine pushed for the equalization – but the Gladbachers lacked precision in the final phase. The most dangerous attempt by the guests defused Nübel when he defended a shot from Florian Neuhaus (90.+1).
“I believe that overall we have shown a good away game in many points, of course there is always the result in sports and if you go off the pitch with a defeat. You are disappointed. Especially if you felt very active, very compact, also took risks and then loses the game about a quick -performed standard situation is very annoying”said Seoane after the game.
