The portal La Política Online gave the scoop that the Minister of State Deregulation, Federico Sturzeneggerwas suspended as a member of the club Gymnastics and Fencing of La Plata. The libertarian official was notified that he was left off the registry of the entity’s internal elections due to a four-month debt, which is why he could not vote this Saturday.
According to sources from the La Plata club, by statute, members had time until the last minute on Thursday to catch up with the payment of dues. The economist did not cancel a total debt of 105,000 pesos. Quite a curiosity, considering that Sturzenegger repeatedly expressed his ideas linked to the institutional privatization of Argentine soccer clubs.
For some time, Sturzenegger had been raising his support for the initiative of Javier Milei’s government to allow Sports Joint Stock Companies (SAD) in clubs in Argentina. “I’m from Gimnasia and if we don’t bring capital, I don’t know where we are. The AFA has to adapt,” he said in August 2024. The Buenos Aires institution is going through a deep economic crisis that complicates the practice of all sports disciplines.
The current president of Gimnasia y Esgrima, Mariano Cowen, He did not stand for re-election and delegated the structure of the ruling party to Unir a Gimnasia candidate, Diego Patiño. However, the opposition led by Carlos Anacleto (Tripera Power Plant) won the electoral contest, surpassing the official list already Daniel Onofri (Above Gymnastics) and Toto Town (Gymnastics We Are All). Anacleto won with 74% of the votes.

More than 7,000 of the 15,586 members eligible to vote attended to express themselves at the polls: Anacleto received 5,739 votes, appearing ahead of Daniel Onofri (1,097 votes), Diego Patiño (502 votes) and Edgardo Medina (328 votes) among the 32 months enabled, as confirmed by the La Plata club on its social networks.
To all this, the minister will have to catch up with the administration of “El Lobo de La Plata.” By not having paid the membership fee for the fourth consecutive month, the club considers it as a kind of renunciation of its membership status and ceases to appear in the system, at least until it pays the entire debt and regularizes its situation.
