The student hotel with five hundred rooms will be the first construction project to get off the ground in Kronenburg, says Alderman Floor Gordon. “This is again a milestone for the development of Kronenburg after permission from the government for 438 homes and the demolition of the old Ballast Nedam building.”
The municipality of Amstelveen has been trying to build large quantities of (student) homes in Kronenburg for years, but rules about building around Schiphol makes that particularly difficult. As a result, a large part of the houses that are planned in the area are so-called short stay-homes, with a maximum residence time of six months.
Also in the case of the student hotel, water had to be added to the wine. The intended one -year lease contracts had to be in two, because the noise pollution of aircraft flying at Schiphol would be too great.
