Struggling NAC succumbed to Heerenveen due to a lousy first half

NAC Breda failed to beat SC Heerenveen on Sunday. NAC defeated itself in particular by conceding three goals in the first half. Although NAC did everything in the second half to at least get a draw, the three points went to Friesland: 2-4.

The match was intense from the first second. After 14 counts, Oliver Braude already received a yellow card. A few minutes later, Robin van Persie’s team took the lead thanks to a goal by Jacob Trenskow who cleverly shot the ball into the ropes.

Less than six minutes later it is already 0-2. Alireza Jahanbakhsh scores hard from a counter.

NAC recovers quickly thanks to a weapon that has already been used this season: Jan Van den Bergh’s long throw-in. His throw-in is headed through by a Heerenveen defender, after which Elías Már Ómarsson is able to nod the ball in: 1-2.

Ten minutes later, Heerenveen scores the third through Nikolai Hopland. At that moment, NAC seems to have completely lost its way and is being overthrown on all sides by the Frisians.

Sydney van Hooijdonk started on the bench, but was allowed to come on in the second half and made his return for NAC. The team from Breda was sometimes unlucky with shots hitting the post and crossbar. Yet they managed to make it 2-3 ten minutes before the end thanks to another goal from Elías Már Ómarsson.

When NAC then rushed to find the equalizer, they were defeated and Ilias Sebaoui scored the 2-4 in the closing seconds of the match.

Due to the loss, NAC Breda drops to eleventh place in the Premier League and has the same number of points (22) as Willem II. The Tilburgers were beaten by FC Twente on Sunday afternoon: 6-2.
