Strong wind threatens to ruin New Year’s party: no fireworks in De Panne and Lommel, Ghent becomes borderline

In various cities in Flanders it has been a tradition for years to celebrate the New Year with a grand New Year’s fireworks. But this year the fireworks in De Panne and Lommel were already canceled due to heavy winds. In Middelkerke and Ostend it will be decided later in the day whether the fireworks can still go ahead. Just like last year, things will be tough in Ghent. In the Netherlands too, fireworks were canceled in several places or even moved to yesterday due to the predicted wind.
