Stripe through performance of the Noord Nederlands Orkest at Lowlands because sound check Stromae ran out

The concert that the Noord Nederlands Orkest (NNO) would give today at Lowlands has been cancelled. That’s because Stromae’s nightly sound check has overrun.

“Because about eight hours are needed for the preparations of a headline show, the preparations already start the night before the show”, the Lowlands organization writes. “During the day there is not enough time because there are other performances on stage.”

According to Lowlands, there was an unexpected delay at night. “It turned out to be impossible to make up for this delay, so unfortunately it was decided to cancel the performance of the Noord Nederlands Orkest so that Stromae’s show can continue tonight.”

Lowlands calls the decision ‘disappointing’ and says that an attempt has been made to let the orchestra continue at another time. “But since they come to Lowlands with a total of almost 160 people, another stage is not an option. These are simply not big enough.”

The NNO was to perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. “I am out and very disappointed”, artistic director Marcel Mandos of the NNO responds to RTV North. “I find it incomprehensible.”

The orchestra was informed of the decision of Lowlands last night. According to Mandos, Lowlands boss Eric van Eerdenburg is also moved and touched that they had to make this decision. “Look, Stromae is the main act of Lowlands and the program is full. If something goes wrong somewhere, you can’t move a performance. But that we are now the child of the bill… Really I am speechless”, responds Mandos.

Lowlands will fulfill the financial obligations. Mandos: “But that does not take away our disappointment. The members of the orchestra, the conductor, the soloists, everyone is really disappointed.”
