Striking ‘rescue action’ on IJmeer: KNRM on the road for lost aircraft advertising

The KNRM goes out on Saturday evening for an unusual action. An aerial advertising plane lost its banner over the IJmeer, so the pilot called the coastguard. The KNRM of Huizen was called in and two boats started a search. After half an hour, the banner was finally found.

“We were called and asked by the Dutch art guard to go onto the IJmeer,” the spokesman for KNRM Huizen told NH Nieuws from the rescue station. And they don’t get requests like this every day. “I was just talking about it with my colleagues, it’s the third time in our 55 years that something like this has happened!”

Two boats have been pulled out to locate the banner. Because all those lines in the water, that can be quite dangerous. “Boats can get stuck.”

Just search

Fortunately, the banner ended up in a strategic place. “He ended up close to Pampus, an area where there is little shipping due to the many aquatic plants,” the spokesperson reported with relief.

It did take a good half hour before the boats managed to find the canvas. Only a few lines were visible above the water’s surface.

Once the loot was in, it was possible to sail back and the canvas was neatly folded on the side. “The owner has already picked up the banner.”
