Striking news from Ukraine: Shakhtar Donetsk fires Dutch coach Patrick van Leeuwen | Dutch football

Five Dutch trainers were active in the Champions League this season, but that is now one less. Patrick van Leeuwen has been fired from Shakhtar Donetsk after just three months. He was at the helm of the club from Ukraine for only twelve games.

Van Leeuwen won 2-3 against Mark van Bommel’s Antwerp in the Champions League this month. The first game in the group stage was lost 1-3 against FC Porto. In the Ukrainian league, Shakhtar occupies third place, although the team has fewer losing points than leader FC Kryvbas and number two Polissya Zhytomyr.

Due to the dismissal of Van Leeuwen, Arne Slot (Feyenoord), Peter Bosz (PSV), Erik ten Hag (Manchester United) and Mark van Bommel (Antwerp) now have to uphold Dutch honor in the Champions League.
