First ice cold, then highly emotional: Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy dedicated his goal in the 2-0 (2-0) win in the Champions League play-off first leg against Atalanta Bergamo to his late niece Aissata. “Yes, it is true, we have received very sad news in our family,” said Guirassy after the final whistle on Prime Video: “Someone has died.”
After his opening goal, the 29-year-old pulled up his jersey in the 3rd minute and the emotional message was written on a yellow undershirt: “Aissata Guirassy. May he welcome you to his great paradise.” The message was intended to support his older brother, Guirassy revealed. “We stand by him and are there for him.”
He also sent a greeting to heaven with a gesture. “That’s life, you have to be strong, because at some point we all die,” said Guirassy, who also prepared Maximilian Beier’s 2-0 (42nd) and thus became the match winner.
