Strict limitations apply to drone flights during the NATO-top. In a radius of more than 16 kilometers around The Hague, where the top takes place, there is a complete ban on drone flying, regardless of the weight or type of drone. Drone flights are also prohibited around Schiphol and Rotterdam The Hague Airport.

People who still send their drone into the air risk a high fine, a summons and loss or seizure of their drone.

It is up to drone airlies to check for themselves whether additional restrictions apply in municipalities.

On the flight cards of Godrone and Aeret card viewer are the (forbidden) flying zones in the Netherlands.

Ban

The NATO summit takes place on 24 and 25 June in The Hague. The flight ban for drones around The Hague, Valkenburg and Noordwijk starts on June 18, and lasts until 25 June. The ban on Schiphol and Rotterdam The Hague starts on June 23 and lasts until 25 June.

Only drones that have been explicitly approved for safety purposes, such as those of the police or defense, may fly in these areas.

In a radius of 1.8 kilometers around the World Forum, where the top takes place, a ban on drone flights has been a ban since 16 May.

Limits

In addition to the prohibition in a radius of more than 16 kilometers, there is a larger radius of more than 92 kilometers around The Hague where restrictions apply. On top of the already applicable rules for drone flights, drones can only fly in this wider jet with a maximum starting weight of 25 kilos to a maximum height of 120 meters. This limitation also applies to the airport of Eindhoven.

In the Netherlands, many tens of thousands of people have a drone. There are always limitations, such as in the vicinity of airports, but practice shows that not all people are aware of the applicable rules. In 2023 there was 40,000 illegal drone flights at Schiphol and Amsterdam alone.
