Street Art Festival in Assen: From gray to walls full of color

Eight artists from the Netherlands and abroad have given color to several walls in Assen during the Street Art Festival. Art organization Writer’s Block has the mission to make the Netherlands more and more colorful. The organization has now realized more than one hundred and fifty murals in the Netherlands.

Wytze Hoogslag is one of the artists in Assen. Together with Remco Efdé he creates a work of art called ‘Sports Competition’. The mural depicts all fictional sports. “It’s just funny and great, cozy colors. It makes you happy and we think that’s the most important thing.”

During the work, the duo is constantly addressed and the compliments fly around them. The only question is how long the mural will be on display. “Many people warn us that young people are going to write about it. But I don’t believe that,” says Hoogslag. “Often when you make something beautiful and positive, young people like it too. At least, that’s what we assume. Think positive!”

Hoogslag’s mural can be seen on Oude Molenstraat. Other works of art can be admired in the vicinity of Het Kanaal, Omloop, Stelling and Zaagmolen.
