Streaming: Taylor Swift’s New Record MIDNIGHTS (Including Seven Additional Tracks)

Taylor Swift’s new album MIDNIGHTS was released on Friday (October 21). A few hours after its release at midnight, fans were surprised with a second version of their LP, which contains seven additional tracks. You can hear all the tracks here.

The musician explains on social media that MIDNIGHTS is a “visual album”, i.e. a work with videos and short films. The clips include Laura Dern and Haim. Rina Yang, with whom she also collaborated on the short film All Too Well, implemented her idea. The trailer for the video series has already been released, and the first release for “Anti-Hero” premiered on YouTube on Friday (October 21) at 2 p.m.

MIDNIGHTS (3AM EDITION) – Or also: The pieces that didn’t make it onto the album

A few hours after its release, Taylor Swift uploaded a second version of her work entitled MIDNIGHTS (3AM EDITION) with seven additional songs. She wrote on Instagram: “Surprise! For me, the 13 songs on MIDNIGHTS make the perfect concept album. Nevertheless, there were some songs that also came about on this journey and to find the magical 13 tracks. I call these the ‘3am Songs’. I wanted to share more insights from our creative process with you. It is now 3 a.m. and now you are getting said glimpses.”

Insights into the recording process and the topics on MIDNIGHTS

MIDNIGHTS co-produced Jack Antonoff, among others a singer with Bleachers. The duo have also worked together on the last five albums (1989 (2014), FOLKLORE (2020), EVERMORE (2020), FEARLESS (TAYLOR’S VERSION) (2021), RED (TAYLOR’S Version) (2021)).

Swift writes of the process and working with her colleague, “He’s a friend for life and we’ve been making music together for decades. Still, this is our first album that just the two of us made together. We already had a few ideas, but MIDNIGHTS just flowed. (…) So Jack and I spent the nights in New York, where we shot every night, stayed up late and relived old memories.”
