The Straubing Tigers won 3-1 (0-1, 1-0, 2-0) at Villacher SV on the fifth day of the Champions Hockey League (CHL) and thus qualified early for the round of 16.
Robert Sabolic (13th) gave the Austrians the lead in the first third, which Taylor Leier (34th) equalized in the second round. The two goals in the final third came from JC Lipon (45′) and again Leier (60′).
In the last group game on October 11th, Straubing meets the Austrians again and plays in a long-distance duel with Färjestad (Sweden) for group victory.
