The Duffer brothers are presenting three new Netflix productions after “Stranger Things”. “The Boroughs” turns the concept around: seniors fight against monsters.
The mystery series “Stranger Things” has ended. However, fans of the story about the friends from Hawkins don’t have to wait long for new projects. The series’ showrunners, Matt and Ross Duffer, are already working on new productions scheduled for release in 2026.
Three new projects are ready
Anyone longing for more “Stranger Things” will not be disappointed in 2026. The animated spin-off “Stranger Things: Tales from 85” is set to appear soon. But that’s not all: two more projects will be launched on Netflix, in which the “Stranger Things” makers are on board as executive producers. One is “The Boroughs” and the other is “Something Really Bad Is Gonna Happen”. For fans of the completed series, the former is particularly interesting, as it could be a kind of reverse “Stranger Things”.
What exactly is the new thing about?
The new Netflix series “The Boroughs” will not be about children, but about a group of seniors who will also be exposed to a monstrous threat. This will try to steal the protagonists’ remaining time.
Netflix’s official plot synopsis for “The Boroughs” reads: “In a seemingly picturesque retirement community, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop a monstrous threat that wants to steal the one thing they don’t have – time.”
The events surrounding the senior clique will probably take place in New Mexico, and eight episodes are currently planned. This time the Duffer brothers are not involved as showrunners, but only as executive producers. Replacing the showrunners are Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, who previously worked on “The Lord of the Rings: The Battle of the Rohirrim,” for example. The cast is also impressive: Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Alfred Molina, Denis O’Hare and Clarke Peters are there. However, it is not yet known when the new Netflix series will appear.
What else to expect from the Duffer brothers
Matt and Ross Duffer are also involved in another project as executive producers. “Something Really Bad Is Gonna Happen” will be about a young couple who are about to get married. However, what exactly it will be about is not yet known. The miniseries will also appear on Netflix in 2026.
