In Haarlem, after centuries, the courtyard is still a beloved place to live. Frans Loenenhofje is such an oasis in the city. Frans Loenen was a wealthy Amsterdammer who lived on Dam Square in the early 17th century. He moved to Haarlem where a courtyard for poor women was built from his spacious legacy. And even today there are single women who are not too wide.

The rescue brigade in Wijk aan Zee has been in existence for 100 years. Every summer there are dozens of volunteers active as Lifeguard. They ensure that it is safe to live on the beach and especially at sea. The treacherous mui makes victims every year.
